Hillary: LBJ more important to civil rights than MLK

By ldutson - Posted on 07 January 2008

This clip floored me when I saw it tonight. According to Fox News, Hillary Clinton made the outrageous statement that Lyndon Johnson, likely the most corrupt politician to ever roam the face of this earth, was more important to the Civil Rights movement in the U.S. than Martin Luther King Jr. :

This is the biggest gaffe I've ever witnessed in politics, but it will probably go ignored. I can't begin to articulate how much is wrong with that sentiment. Clinton is saying that, because LBJ was forced by circumstance and the weight of history to sign a piece of legislation, he stands above Martin Luther King Jr. in the struggle for Civil Rights. LBJ, who lied and stole and cheated his way into the American political saga, more important than one of the most revered figures in the history of Western civilization.

Astounding.
